They advertise rooms, island tours, elephant sanctuaries, or cooking classes at competitive prices. After you pay (often via bank transfer or PayPal 'friends and family'), the business either disappears entirely, or you arrive to find the accommodation or tour does not match the photos. Some copycat sites use the real hotel's photos and slightly modified domain names (e.g., 'booking-thailand.com' instead of 'booking.com'). Facebook and Instagram ads for these scams have increased significantly in 2025-2026.
